Old 441's Lunch Spots Are Still Open Behind the Eudora Road Detour

October 15, 2026

"We were relying on a lot of drive-by traffic, with 15,000 cars recorded going past here each day," a co-owner of Magical Meat Boutique told ClickOrlando in September. The pub spent 12 years downtown. Then it bought a building on Old U.S. Highway 441 last year, partly because of those cars.

Lake County's roundabout project at Eudora Road, State Road 19 and Old 441 has cut off most of the traffic that used to pass the businesses at that junction, and all of them are still open. Since August 31, the old route through the intersection no longer works for north- and southbound drivers. Reaching these businesses now depends on knowing the county's detour, and that detour is about to change twice before the project ends.

What closed on August 31

Lake County's traffic notice set the new pattern for August 31, 2026. It closed north- and southbound movements where Eudora Road meets Old U.S. Highway 441. East-west traffic still moves through the intersection. The roundabout is going in just past Mount Dora's city limits, according to Mount Dora Buzz.

The county sends drivers bound for CR 19A, Eudora Road and Triangle Elementary School along three roads:

  1. Bay Road
  2. Lake Center Drive
  3. U.S. Highway 441

The detour has its own new pieces. A smaller roundabout at Bay Road and Triangle Drive was built first, along with a traffic signal at Triangle Drive, Lake Center Drive and Old State Road 19. The county calls the Triangle Drive road the "dedicated detour route" around the partial closure. According to Mount Dora Buzz, the contractor also updated GPS systems to steer drivers onto the detours, so a navigation app may already route you correctly.

The businesses inside the work zone

Four businesses come up again and again in local coverage of the closure. Each one has dealt with it differently.

Business Where What has changed
Magical Meat Boutique 3725 W. Old US Highway 441 Shorter hours since construction began. A $12 weekday lunch runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dora Cafe 3201 N. Highway 19A Recently added dinner service

The numbers behind the table are steep. Magical Meat Boutique's owners told ClickOrlando that sales have fallen 42% since construction started. Mount Dora Buzz followed up on October 1 and found something better. Once the media coverage began, the pub "received a lot of community support to help boost sales."

Dora Cafe added a meal in the middle of all this. Buzz reports that its dinner service brings in new revenue. Online listings still show the cafe closing at 2 p.m. Dinner hours haven't been published in the local coverage, so call ahead before driving over for an evening meal.

Magical Meat Boutique's $12 lunch menu covers a tuna melt, a smash burger, a grilled chicken sandwich, fish and chips, a BLT and quiche, served weekdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. King's Donuts & Deli serves donuts, baked goods, and breakfast and lunch sandwiches, with ordering open from early morning into early afternoon.

Why the road stays shut instead of staying open

The county's reasoning comes down to money and time. Mount Dora Buzz reports the county's explanation that building with traffic still moving through the intersection would have been "nearly impossible." The main obstacle is the large amount of utility relocation needed where Eudora Road meets State Road 19. By the county's estimate, keeping the road open would have added $1 million to the taxpayer cost and stretched the project by about a year.

The project also has a long history. Lake County's September 29 update says nearly 100 crashes have been reported in the project area since 2015. The county has also received requests about flooding and drainage there, and the work includes drainage improvements alongside the roundabout. The roundabout itself has been discussed for years. The Lake County Commission approved it on July 22, 2025, signed with Atlantic Civil Constructors on October 28, 2025, and issued the notice to proceed on April 2, 2026.

The business owners and the county disagree about how much warning came before the closure. Mount Dora Buzz reports that owners say they were never told closures would be prolonged. The county's account is that Public Works staff spoke with affected businesses beforehand and that signs went up three to four weeks ahead. Both sides still support the roundabout itself. "I do think that the roundabout is important. I'm a big fan of them. I think they're safe," a Magical Meat Boutique co-owner told ClickOrlando.

Since then, the county has put up five signs around the area telling drivers the businesses are open, and it has asked residents to support businesses throughout the construction corridor.

January, then February

Lake County has two more traffic changes on the schedule.

  • January 2027: Phased traffic changes begin at Eudora Road and Old 441. The county says it will publish details and new detour routes before they take effect.
  • February 2027: The full intersection closure is expected to begin and last about three months. The county says every business in the area will stay reachable throughout.
  • Through the end of the project: The stretches of Eudora Road and Old 441 that are already closed stay closed until the work is finished.

The county's contract runs 640 days. As of September 29, the contractor had finished 149 of them and was on schedule. The county has not given a calendar date for completion. ClickOrlando reported that the project is expected to wrap up by summer 2027.

For the rest of 2026, the Bay Road and Lake Center Drive detour is how you get to the junction. Once January comes, check the county's notice for the new routes before you head out.

The same weekends, pulling the other direction

The detour is also competing with one of downtown's busiest stretches of the year. These fall events are coming up:

  • October 17: The city's free Downtown Fall Festival at Sunset Park, 5 to 9 p.m., with live entertainment, food and a drone show.
  • October 24 and 25: The 41st Mount Dora Craft Fair on downtown streets, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
  • October 30: The Empty Bowls fundraiser and soup supper downtown, according to Mount Dora Buzz.
  • November 7 and 8: The Mount Dora Plant and Garden Fair. The Mount Dora Chamber also lists Light Up Mount Dora for November but hasn't posted a date.

The Craft Fair's posted shuttle and parking details are from last year's event, so check with the organizers before counting on them.

Downtown has also added two new places on North Alexander Street this year. Salt & Ember opened in April 2026 with wood-fired seafood, steaks and cocktails, as reported by the Daily Commercial. Daybreak Yoga Collective and Roots Café opened together at 430 N. Alexander St. in the old Segway space. The café's plant-forward menu is open to anyone, not just people coming from yoga class. Lake & Sumter Style profiled both businesses in August.

Magical Meat Boutique moved in the opposite direction, from downtown out to Old 441 last year. So while downtown Mount Dora is crowded with festivals this fall, a business that spent 12 years in the middle of that crowd is now sitting behind a county detour. To get there, take Bay Road to Lake Center Drive and watch for the county's five signs telling drivers the businesses are open.

At Central Florida RE Team, we keep track of the roadwork and openings that change how a Mount Dora week works, from the Eudora Road schedule to whatever opens next on Alexander Street.
